Judging List for 2024 with New KC Criteria

Following the UK Kennel Club new criteria for Judges, we would like to welcome you to update your CV by 24th November 2023 ready for the new list in 2024.

*****This only applies to judges currently on our B or C list.  All those on the current A1, A2 or A3 list or registered with the Kennel Club (Level 4 and above) need not update their details.*****

We will also be contacting those who are currently on our B or C List as we don’t want to remove anyone but need to ensure you meet the new criteria.

We will also be keeping our “Overseas” List.

The new Criteria is as follows :

Judging Criteria

Level 4
Eligible to award challenge certificates in Bull Terriers

Judges progressing from level 3 to level 4 must attend and pass a Breed Specific Assessment run by the Kennel Club.  Further detail awaited. For more information on these assessments, please contact Graham Hughes (Judges Education Co-ordinator)

Level 3
Eligible to judge unlimited number of classes at limited, open or championship show (no CC’s)
In order to be included on this the judge must have achieved ALL of the following:

  1. Minimum of 10 years interest in Bull Terriers/Miniatures
  2. Minimum of 8 years judging experience in Bull Terriers/miniatures
  3. To have judged a minimum of 40 classes of Bull Terriers/miniatures
  4. To have Judged a minimum of 80 Bull Terriers/miniatures (with a maximum of 10 miniatures) at UK KC licensed events
  5. To have stewarded for a minimum of 10 days
  6. To have met all the requirements of Level 2
  7. To have judged at least one Bull Terrier breed open show or general championship show without challenge certificates.
  8. To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 Bull Terriers/miniatures when they obtained their first stud book entry.
  9. Undergone a minimum of 3 mentoring sessions with a minimum of 12 months between first and third session
  10. Have been observed judging a breed club show or general championship show (without CCs) once all mentoring sessions have been undertaken

Level 2
Eligible to judge unlimited number of classes at limited, open or championship show (no CCs)
In order to be included on this list the judge must have achieved ALL of the following:

  1. Minimum of six years’ interest in Bull Terriers/miniatures
  2. To have Judged 12 classes of Bull Terrier/miniatures at Open or Limit Shows
  3. To have judged at least 30 Bull Terrier/miniatures (with a maximum of 5 miniatures) at UK KC licensed events
  4. To have stewarded for a minimum of 6 days
  5. To have met all of the requirements of level 1
  6. Take and pass Requirements of a Dog Show Judge examination
  7. To have passed Points of a Dog assessment
  8. Attend a Breed Appreciation Day (BAD) and pass a Multiple Choice Examination (MCE) for the respective breed
  9. View ring stewarding seminar and take online quiz
  10. To have completed the critique writing seminar and take online quiz

Level 1
Eligible to judge up to four classes (if one is puppy)
In order to be included on this list the judge must have achieved ALL of the following:

  1. Minimum of 5 years proven interest in Bull Terriers/miniatures
  2. Take and Pass Requirements of a Dog Show Judge examination. Judges attending an online Requirements of a Dog Show Judge seminar may take the exam via The Kennel Club Academy (exam effective 1st January 2024)
  3. Attend a conformation and movement seminar
  4. Pass Points of a Dog assessment (effective 1st January 2024)
  5. Complete a minimum of 2 full-day stewarding appointments

 

OVERSEAS JUDGES NOT APPROVED TO AWARD EQUIVALENT OF CC’S IN THEIR COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE, JUDGING AT NON-CC LEVEL IN THE UK

A summary is provided below :

Level 1 criteria – must prove to the inviting show society that the introductory judges training in their country of residence has been undertaken, by making available the pass certificate or having written confirmation from their kennel club or have attended the mandatory UK Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows) seminars, along with having a proven interest of a minimum of five years in one or more aspects of the breeding and exhibiting of pedigree dogs, and have two days’ stewarding experience (in their own country is accepted).

Judging Privileges for Level 1

Up to three classes (four if one is a Puppy) of any breed at any show – judge to register at JEP level 1.

Level 2 criteria – have attended a UK breed seminar and passed the multiple choice exam and/or hands-on assessment plus above requirements. Attended the remaining Kennel Club mandatory Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows) seminars and passed relevant exam where required.

Judging Privileges for Level 2

  1. Unlimited number of classes of breeds registered at level 2 at open, limited and championship shows with no CCs.
  2. Up to three classes (four if one is a Puppy) of any breed at any show.

Level 3 criteria – must follow Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows) – will accept three champions owned/bred instead of three dogs listed in The Kennel Club Stud Book and stewarding in home country.

Judging privileges for Level 3 – as level 2

Level 4 criteria – must follow Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows)

Judging privileges for Level 4

(a) Unlimited number of classes of level 4 breeds UK with CCs and also at open and limited shows.

(b) All groups and best in show and AV classes at open and limited shows.

(c) Up to three classes (four if one is a Puppy) of any other breed at any show – already registered as JEP level 1.
