This is the correspondence that is sent to Selectors at the beginning of the year.

“On behalf of the BTC Committee, I am delighted that you were able to accept our invitation to select the competitors for this year’s Major Trophy Show.

As part of the criteria each Selector is required to attend a minimum of 50% of shows throughout the year. This way, with the 5 selectors, we can cover most, if not all the shows (as stated in guidelines at least one selector should attend each show).  If you do not attend shows regularly or your circumstances change, we have the right to remove you as a Selector.

After the “insert show” Show in June you will be asked to complete a half-way list, this way information can be shared with all the selectors.  I have attached the relevant interim forms for all Trophies and would be grateful if you could complete your interim selections by “Insert Date”.

The “Insert Show” show on “Insert Date” is the last Championship Show of the year. I will then need your final lists by the “Insert Date” to compile the final short lists of potential invitees.

The final selection meeting of “Insert Year” will take place at The Royal Court Hotel, Tamworth Road, Coventry, CV7 8JG on a date to be announced (followed by lunch with the BTC Committee).

“SELECTORS GUIDELINES and PROCEDURES”

Selection Procedure. 

1. The panel of selectors will be presided over by an independent Chairman. The Chairman’s role is to collate information and returns made by the selectors and advise on the rules of selection and the eligibility of animals. The Chairman will not have any vote or influence over the selections made.

2. After at least half the Championship Shows have been completed, the Chairman will request each selector to supply a list of animals that they wish at the time to be considered for selection. The Chairman will then circulate a complete list to each of the selectors to assist in the exchange of opinions and information, and to generally help in the selection process. These lists will not be circulated outside the panel of selectors and will be treated as confidential.

3. During the course of the year, the Chairman may also, if it is considered necessary, call a meeting of the selectors to enable discussion of possible selections in open forum.

4. After the final qualifying show of the year, the Chairman will request each selector to supply a list of animals that they wish to be selected for each of the major trophies. From these returns the Chairman will collate a complete list of all animals considered for each trophy indicating the level of support that each animal has received. These lists will not be circulated outside the panel of selectors and will be treated as confidential.

5. As soon as is convenient after the qualifying show of the year, a meeting of selectors will be held to enable the final selection of animals to take place. Animals will be selected by majority voting of those selectors attending the meeting. 

Selectors Guidelines. 

1. Selectors are expected to attend a majority ( at least half) of the Championship Show’s where Challenge Certificates are on offer for  the breed.

2. Selectors are reminded that all matters appertaining to the selection of animals for the Major Trophies are Strictly Confidential.

3. Selectors should attempt by discussion and arrangement, to ensure that whenever possible, all Championship show’s are attended by at least one selector.

4. Selectors should be conversant with the Rules governing The Bull Terrier Club Major Trophy Competitions and the difference contained therein, and particularly with the numbers of animals required to be selected for each trophy which are:

The REGENT  TROPHY.

NOT  LESS  THAN  TEN animals of which FOUR must be DOGS and SIX must be BITCHES.

Plus ONE reserve DOG and ONE reserve BITCH.

 

The ORMANDY  JUGS.

EIGHT  DOGS.

Plus a First Reserve dog and a Second Reserve dog.

TEN  BITCHES.

Plus a First Reserve bitch and a Second Reserve bitch.

 

The SANDAWANA  TROPHY.

NOT  LESS THAN  TEN  animals of which FOUR must be DOGS and FOUR must be BITCHES.

Plus ONE reserve DOG and ONE reserve BITCH.

5. Selectors are reminded that the Bull Terrier Club’s Major Trophies are confined to animals that are BRED, that RESIDE and that are OWNED (Registered at the UK Kennel Club) in the UK. and Republic of Ireland.

6. Selectors should understand and agree to abide by the selection procedure
